Despina Zacharopoulou is a Greek artist, whose practice and research re-define performance as "Spatium Monstrorum"; surface and game of truth, hiding place and stage of exposure, generator of images and event of Beauty.  The recipient of an Onassis Foundation scholarship, Despina is a practice-led Ph.D. researcher in Fine Art (performance) at the Royal College of Art's School of Art & Humanities. 

 

Despina holds a Master in Fine Arts, a Master in Visual Arts (Costume Design - Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp), a Msc in Architecture and a Diploma in Architecture. She is the Academic Leader of the Royal College of Art's Contemporary Art Summer School (January 2018 onwards) and, since 2016, she has been leading MA Groups, workshops and crits at the RCA School of Arts & Humanities. She was a subsidiary tutor at the National Technical University of Athens School of Architecture (Sector III, Painting Department, 2010-2012), and at the Athens School of Fine Arts (Sculpture Department, Studio A, 2012). 

 

Despina Zacharopoulou has participated in various exhibitions in Greece, Belgium, Russia, the UK, Thailand, Austria and the USA, and has received scholarships and awards for her academic achievements. In October 2018, she presented a three-week long durational performance commissioned by the Marina Abramović Institute and the first Art Bangkok Biennale in Thailand.
